About Membership

Join the Society

The Society of Biological Psychiatry invites you to join an elite group of psychiatrists who are engaged in basic, translational, and clinical science to serve people with mental illness.

The Society is a vital and dynamic organization. Founded over 65 years ago, SOBP has undergone a dramatic scientific renaissance over the past decade. It is a unique Society, where both senior and junior scientists contribute to a stimulating and extremely well-attended meeting.

Our journal, Biological Psychiatry, is one of the most selective and highly cited journals in the field of psychiatric neuroscience. It is ranked 7th out of 146 Psychiatry titles and 12th out of 267 Neuroscience categories and has an Impact Factor of 11.501. The journal also received more citations than any other journal in the field of psychiatry (41,859).

When you become a member of this intimate Society, you will have the opportunity to interact with thought leaders who are fueling innovation, access, and development in the field of psychiatric neuroscience including major advances in genetics and therapeutics. Your membership in the Society of Biological Psychiatry will put you in touch with the professionals who have shaped the field as it currently exists — and will enable you to be one of those who shape biological psychiatry as it will be known!
